Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and HRH Pg Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar granted separate audiences yesterday to intending haj pilgrims at the Istana Nurul Iman. Also present at the audience were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah. Their Majesties Grant Audience To Haj Pilgrims 


Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and HRH Pg Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar granted separate audiences at the Istana Nurul Iman yesterday to those intending to perform their haj pilgrimage.Also present at the audience were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah.

The pilgrims were also presented with "kurnia" such as "ihram" for the males and "telakung" for the females to use during the haj pilgrimage.Some 700 Bruneians including haj officials will take part in this year's pilgrimage.The first of four flights will leave for the holy land on November 3.One of the pilgrims, Pg Hjh Shamsinah, said she went to the palace to greet Their Majesties and to show gratitude for the haj airfare that was granted by His Majesty's government.

His Majesty's government grants free haj airfare annually to long service officers.Meanwhile, Rosli bin Jumat from Kg Kapok, who was also at the Istana yesterday with his wife and eldest son, told the Bulletin that this would be the first time that he will be performing the haj.He also thanked His Majesty for giving him the opportunity to perform the haj pilgrimage along with his loved ones."I'm 46 and I've always wanted to perform the haj for some time now. I didn't have the opportunity before and I also didn't think I was ready but now I am," Rosli said emotionally.

The audience with His Majesty for haj pilgrims is an annual event where pilgrims get to meet and receive souvenirs from the monarch prior to leaving for Saudi Arabia.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
